Shillong, July 7: A POCSO court has convicted a rape accused to rigourous imprisonment.
In a statement, the West Garo Hills SP VS Rathore said on November, 8, 2014, an information was received at Tura Women PS that King Victor Ch. Marak @ Tengchu had sexually assaulted a minor girl at his residence.
On receipt of information, a case was immediately registered and investigation was entrusted to WPI Gorethy T. Sangma.
After investigation, the chargesheet was submitted on August 1, 2017.
After the completion of trial, the Court of Special Judge (POCSO), West Garo Hills, Tura found the accused guilty and convicted him under sections 376(2) IPC R/W section 6 of POCSO Act, 2012.
Subsequent to the judgment, the court, on July 4, sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment for ten years with a fine of Rs. 40,000 and in default of fine, he will be sentenced for further simple imprisonment of six months.
