Court sentences man for twin murder

Shillong, Oct 4: The District and Session Judge, West Khasi Hills District, has sentenced an accused in a twin morder case to life imprisonment without parole

According to an official statement, on August 24, 2021, an FIR was received from the complainant stating that, on the same day, around 10.20 am, his mother, aged 79 years, was found locked from outside in her house at Nongstoin Village. After breaking open the lock and entering the house, the complainant was surprised to find the body of his mother lying inside the dish-washing room. On checking the other room, they further found the body of the housemaid, aged 25 years, lying in the bedroom. It was suspected that both deceased persons had been murdered by some unknown miscreants.

Accordingly, a case was registered vide Nongstoin P.S. Case No. 54(08)2021 under Sections 302/34 IPC and the investigation was entrusted to WPSI D.P. Nongbri. Upon investigation, the accused person was identified as  Banphrangkupar Nongbri. On completion of investigation and having gathered all evidence, the Investigating Officer submitted a charge sheet against the accused under Section 302 of the IPC.

On September 30, the District and Session Judge, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin, on appreciation of all the evidences, ruled the case against the accused person Nongbri, convicting and sentenced him  to undergo rigorous imprisonment for all his remaining life without parole since it was heinous twin-murder case. The fine is Rs 1 lakh for each victim for the offence punishable under section 302 IPC.
