The lady working in a government sector had lodged the FIR at Crime Branch PS Shillong stating that in January this year, she was lured to invest Rs 17,50,000 in a reputed company by her friend in good faith.

The victim was allowed to work from home. But after a month, she realised that the activities of the company were doubtful though it made a lot of promises in various zoom meetings she attended.

She then contacted her friends and a mentor who claimed to be representing the company.. She also emailed to the company to return her money but in vain .Finding no alternative, she approached the CBPS Shillong in April 2023 following which a case was registered.

After freezing various bank accounts of the accused by the police, he had no other option than to flee the country for three months but under pressure, he agreed to pay the money through the company representative.

On August 2, she received the full amount through demand draft.

The fraud was investigated by Inspector BK Mishra who had successfully handled several cyber crime cases during his stint in Shillong and Williamnagar which led to the arrest of many cyber criminals from different parts of the country.

The victim /complaint thanked Mishra and the police force for the swift action.
