Days after death of 2-year-old grandson, woman succumbs to mushroom poisoning
Shillong, June 9: A few days after the death of her two-year-old grandson, the grandmother succumbed to mushroom poisoning, on Sunday.
Police said information from Bethany Hospital, Nongpoh was received that Larita Syiemlieh (40), who consumed mushroom with her family and was referred from Civil Hospital, Nongpoh last Sunday, passed away.
Earlier on June 2 last a case of poisoning was reported to the police by Bethany hospital, Nongpoh that Larita Syiemlieh along with her two daughters- 16 and 14 years- 25-year-old son and one grandson (2) had consumed multicoloured mushroom on the night of June 1 and later they began to suffer dysentery and vomiting. They were shifted to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh. Out of 5 persons, two were referred to Bethany Hospital on June 2. The three patients at Civil Hospital were found stable and two patients at Bethany Hospital were admitted and were under observation. Out of the two,the two year-old boy passed away on June 5 early hours.
