DC prohibits gambling, collection of entry fee at Shillong Peak on New Year day

Shillong, Dec 20: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah has prohibited gambling and illegal collection of entry fee at Shillong Peak on New Year day.
In an order issued on Friday, the deputy commissioner said information has been received that illegal gambling and other illegal activities has been going on at Lum Shyllong (Shillong Peak) every year on the New Year Celebration day and also Illegal collection of fees (entry/parking) is being collected from the public at the peak every year on the new year celebration;
“And whereas, if such illegal practices are being allowed it may result in harassment of the public as well as it affects the sanctity and dignity of the Raid and the Hima Mylliem as a whole and whereas, I am fully satisfied that prohibitory order under under Section 163 BNSS is necessary to be passed”, the DC said.
Any violation to this order shall be prosecuted under Section 188 of the BNS, she added.
Restrictions on firecrackersÂ
The Deputy Commissioner also restricted the sale of high decimal firecrackers and ordered that the fireworks can be initiated only from 12 am to 12. 30 am of December 25 and January 1.
Prohibition on hay-laden trucksÂ
The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 BNSS banning plying of overloaded hay-laden trucks/pickups plying from Mawtawar-Mawsiatkhnam Road, across the city of Shillong.
The order is necessitated in view of the report received that plying of overloaded vehicles poses a significant safety hazard and may contact electric wires, which may result in a major fire incident. Hay falling from these trucks is littering the roads in the localities, creating a nuisance and undermining the efforts of the annual cleaning drive of the localities.
Any violation to this order shall be prosecuted under Section 188 of the BNSS.
