Delhi hotel denies sexual assault charge by victim

Shillong, Jan 19: Hotel Tripple Tree, New Delhi has denied allegations of sexual assault by a painter in one of the rooms, where the 19-year-old victim from Meghalaya was staying.

When contacted on phone, the hotel staff said that they examined the CCTV footages and there was no forced entry by the painter or anyone from the hotel to the room number 306 on January 13.

The 19-year-old was part of the team who attended the National Youth Festival held  in New Delhi  from January 10 to 12.

According to the hotel staff, the CCTV footages were shown to the female friend of the hoel before they left for Shillong.

The FIR filed with he officer- in -charge, Sadar Police Station in Shillong on January 15 said that on January 13 while the rest of the female contingent had gone for marketing and when she was alone in her room (No 306), around  4 pm, one person forcibly entered  her room while two others remained outside.

The accused restrained her against her will, and committed sexual assault on her. She recognised the perpetrators as painters at the hotel, the FIR alleged and stated that around 6.30 pm when she regained consciousness, she tried to call her friends on phone, but were not reachable. Hence she informed the local volunteers of the organising committee.

The state women’s commission is in touch with National women’s panel to follow up the case.

“Yes , we are pursuing the matter with the member of national women’s commission”, state women’s rights panel chief IM Syiem said.

East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said that though the family of the victim wanted to  withdraw the FIR, the police we will first ascertain facts after her re-examination.

Initial medical report does not indicate signs of rape, the SP added.
