Deployment of outside force embarassment for state: Jemino

Shillong, April 9: The UDP has termed it as embarassment if the police cannot stop  illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state paving the way for an outside force to control the situation.
“Deployment of an outside force is a big embarassment and it only shows that we are not able to address this issue from a proper perspective,” UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said.
“We need to enforce our state machinery otherwise it will reflect that the government is weak to enforce law,” he said.
The High Court of Meghalaya had suggested for deployment of the central industrial security force (CISF) to check illegal transportation of coal in Meghalaya.
According to Mawthoh if the state machinery is performing well, there is no need for an outside agency to interfere as well as intervention by the court.
“Therefore, there is a need for political accountability and for strengthening the administrative machinery in the state,” he added.
He said bringing an outside force is  unnecessary as it will only show that the state is not capable of handling the situation.
“Therefore, we have to show that we can handle the situation because if we don’t it will only show that the government is weak,” Mawthoh asserted.
