Election panel monitors campaigns & law order issues

Shillong, Apr 10: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO)  BDR Tiwari has said the election commission is keeping a close watch on the campaigns as well as the law and order situation in the state.

After the imposition of model code of conduct, the state witnessed three murders- two in Ichamati and one in Mawlai Mawroh in the city besides disturbance in the campaigns of the NPP.

“We are keeping a close watch over the entire campaigning of the different political parties as that is important,” Tiwari told reporters on Wednesday.

He said concerned teams are in the field to check on violation of model code of conduct.

“We are also keeping a watch over social media, electronic media, print media”, he said.

The commission will ensure MCC is fully enforced in letter and spirit, the CEO said.

Regarding the law and order, the CEO said, “We are keeping very close watch on the entire situation, so the entire machinery including police and district administration we are very much activated and all the incidents, all the situations we are keeping close watch.”

He said 40 companies of central armed police force (CAPF) are being deployed in different parts of the state. 22 companies are for Shillong constituency and 18 for Tura constituency.
