EMRI employees to stage midnight strike

Shillong, Jan 3: The GVK-EMRI employees will resort to strike from Monday midnight against delay by the government to adhere to their demands.

Speaking to reporters, the president of  Meghalaya EMRI workers Union, Micronila Syiemlieh said over 250 employees will protest demanding hike in slary and the need to delink the service from GVK.

“The government must increase our salary from Rs 8000 to a higher amount and there are no TA and DA given to the employees even if they go out of the district and we are finding it difficult to sustain ourselves but those who have families are the worst affected”, she said.

The union also wanted the government not to outsource the EMRI service to outside contractors.

“We also urge the government to regularise the service of permanent employees”, she said.

The union leader said the protest would  continue for a week and if there is no response, the agitation will continue.

The striking employees are under the categories of Emergency Response Officers , Pilots of 108 vehicles and Emergency Medical Technicians.
