Shillong, June 4: Outgoing Shillong MP Vincent Pala said he expected the setback and attributed to the exodus of MLAs and MDCs from the Congress and anti-incumbency as the reason.
Pala, however, hoped that with Congress reviving in Tura, he will work hard to boost the party in the state.
He also ruled out leaving the post of president of the state Congress.
“I will not surrender, we won Garo Hills and we will work hard to improve our position in Khasi-Jaintia Hills,” Pala added.
According to Pala, as heĀ had won three times, there is definitely anti-incumbency factor against him. “Congress was targetted everywhere, including Jaintia Hills”, Pala said.I
n terms of percentage of votes, Pala said the Shillong winning candidate got 55% whereas he had secured 53% in the past.
