Experts to unlock phone to know more about Nongpoh victim

Shillong, May 2: The Rajasthan police  engaged experts to unlock the iPhone used by Nongpoh student who was found dead in her hostel room of Mody University, Rajasthan on April 27.

Police believe it to be a suicide case while the relatives (in picture) do not subscribe to that.

The SP of Sikar district of Rajasthan, Karan Sharma said on phone on Tuesday that the mobile phone of the victim is yet to be unlocked.

The funeral of the 18- year-old girl Walinda Binong was held in  her village at Marngar on May 1.

“We hope to get information on the circumstances leading to the death of the victim after examining the call records from the phone”, the SP said.

According to the police, the postmortem report had hinted that she died of hanging herself.

“The report says the victim died of asphyxia due to hanging”, the SP said.

When asked whether the victim consumed any poison before hanging herself as some reports in this regard were doing the rounds, the SP said the matter will be known after getting the FSL report.

The university authorities did not find anything negative as she was always cheerful, the SP added.

NCW starts probe 

The National Commission for Women ( NCW) has already constituted an inquiry committee led by member Delina Khongdup to probe into the matter.

When asked, the SP said the initial probe reports were handed over to the NCW member.

The state commission for women held a meeting on Tuesday here and discussed the matter. The commission wanted proper investigation into the matter and it was conveyed to the NWC member.

The state commission will also serk a report from the Rajasthan police.

A delegation of the commission will visit the family of the victim on Wednesday.

VH Blah, the member secretary of the commission, said what concerns is the circumstances that led to the loss of life of a young girl.
