Shillong, May 31: The father of two children, whose bodies were recovered from Nongrah Nonglum, was arrested by the police on Tuesday evening for allegedly killing the duo.
When contacted, SP (city) Vivek Syiem said the suspect took the children with him on Monday.
“His clothes were in the crime scene “, he added.
The police apprehended the father identified as Joefreeon Jana (28) around 7.30 pm from his house at Nongrah.
The headman of Nongrah Nonglum, B. Pyngrope said that he came to know from the locality head (Rangbah Dong) that the suspect was found in his house and the police have detained him.
He has been staying separately with his mother near the residence of his wife as he had some differences with the wife.
Earlier on Monday around 5 pm, he took his children- a girl (4 years) and a boy (2 years)- for a walk.
Later, on Tuesday morning, their bodies were recovered from the forest area (in picture) in the locality.
Police suspected the role of the father as he had absconded after the incident.
The headman said Jana used to take out his children in the evening.
He received a call around 8.30 am on Tuesday that the bodies were found.
