Five acquitted in murder case of former Jalaphet headman in 2013.

Shillong, May 1: Five persons were acquitted in the murder case of former headman of Jalaphet, Bri Sumer Village in 2013.
The Sessions Court, West Jaintia Hills, has acquitted Shining Langstang and four others who had been charged in connection with the murder of Syrti, the then Headman of Jalaphet Bri Sumer Village. The accused had been undergoing trial for nearly a decade.
The judgment, pronounced on April 24, came after a prolonged judicial process. The court ruled that the prosecution was unable to establish the charges. As a result, all five accused were acquitted of the allegations.
The defence team was led by Advocate Nitin Khera, along with Samrat Deb and others.
The accused, who had consistently maintained their innocence since the beginning of the case, expressed relief.
