Shillong,Oct 27: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People ( FKJGP) will hold a protest rally in the city from 11 am on Friday against unemployment issue.
There will be a procession from Motphran to Fire Brigade ground, in Laitumkhrah.
Later , the FKJGP will hold a public meeting.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone urged the youths residing in and around Shillong to take part in the rally in an effort to raise concerns over unemployment among youths in the state.
“It has been noted by the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone that no positive steps have been initiated by the government to increase employment for the youths of the state which is negatively affecting the productivity of our youths, consequently driving many of them towards unethical ways and means for earning a living”, said Pritam Arengh, president of FKJGP, Garo Hills zone. It is a pity that the youths who are the future of any society are not being provided sufficient opportunities to hone their talents and earn their rightful place in the society, he said.
“Thus, it should be the imperative of all youths to demand what is being denied to them, and demand for what rightfully belong to them in a democratic manner. The rally cum public meeting being organised by the FKJGP CEC is a testament that the youths will not hold back anymore if any government/governments fail to provide what they rightfully deserve”, he added.
