Four including two HNYM members held for extortion
Shillong, Sept 18: Four including two HNYM members were arrested on Tuesday in connection with an extortion case in the city.
According to the statement of East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtynger, on August 24, a complaint was lodged at Madanrting police station to the effect that on August 8 an unknown male individual had contacted the complainant around 7 pm demanding Rs 10 lakh. Thereafter, the person contacted the complainant on several occasions insisting that the amount be paid immediately. However, as the complainant did not comply with the demands, the caller along with 2 of his accomplices trespassed the house of the complainant on August 20 around 7 pm with the intent of extorting money. As the complainant was not at home, the accused resorted to intimidating the complainant’s daughter with dire consequences.
In this regard, a criminal case has been registered at Madanrting police station and in the course of investigation, police arrested four persons, including two HNYM activists.
