
Shillong, March 26: Four months after their appointments, Prof. SM Sungoh, department of Education NEHU and Fameline K Marak, department of Garo assumed charge as Pro- Vice Chancellors for Shillong.and Tura respectively.
Sungoh,who assumed duty on March 21, did not respond to calls to know more about her new role.
Earlier in November last year, the NEHU Vice Chancellor P S Shukla had appointed the two pro-vice chancellors but they did not take charge due to the turmoil in NEHU.
However, the issues in NEHU are yet to be resolved.
About Sungoh
Prof SM Sungoh is a distinguished academician and professor in the Department of Education at NEHU, Shillong Campus. With extensive experience in higher education, her research and teaching focus on pedagogy, curriculum development, and educational policy. She has contributed significantly to the academic growth of NEHU in the last several decades and has been actively involved in various research projects, publications, and administrative responsibilities. Her expertise in education will greatly benefit the university in her new role.

As per the NEHU Act and Statutes, the Pro Vice-Chancellor assists the Vice-Chancellor in the overall administration, academic affairs, and financial functioning of the University. In accordance with NEHU Act 13 and Statute 3 (3), the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Shukla, has delegated specific administrative, financial, and academic responsibilities to Prof Sungoh to facilitate the effective governance of the university. These delegated powers are subject to modification as per university requirements to ensure efficient functioning.
During her tenure as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof SM Sungoh will be entitled to draw pay and allowances as prescribed by the UGC and the Ministry of Education, GoI, in alignment with the policies of NEHU. Her services will be governed by the terms and conditions set forth in Statute 3 (2) and Ordinance OE-1 of the University.
Fameline’s career
The North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura Campus, has welcomed Fameline as its new Pro Vice Chancellor, marking a significant milestone in the academic leadership of the institution. A formal joining ceremony was held on March 26 at 10:30 AM, attended by faculty members, administrative staff, and students, signifying the beginning of a new era for NEHU Tura.

Professor Marak, a distinguished academician and one of the senior-most faculty members at NEHU Tura Campus, has been a pillar of the institution since she joined the Department of Garo on June 1, 1996. With an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades, she has made outstanding contributions to the study and preservation of Garo culture and language. Her dedication to scholarship and academic development has earned her immense respect from her peers, students, and the larger academic community.
As Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Marak is set to bring a dynamic and visionary approach to the administration and academic progress of NEHU Tura Campus. Her leadership will focus on enhancing research opportunities, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthening community engagement. She has expressed her commitment to fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment where students and faculty members can thrive and excel in their respective fields.
