Garoland demand gets support of national body

Shillong, Sept 20: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) got a boost with various state demand committees supporting the move.

Balkarin Ch Marak, co-chairman of GSMC said that on October 29, a large gathering will be organised in Tura Teteng A’ja playground on Garoland.

“In view of the the demand for separate state, our fellow members from different parts of Indian states are coming to support to demand Separate Garoland for us, such as Ladakh, Bundelkhand, Vidarbha, Purvanchal, Harit Pradesh, Gorkhaland, Bodoland, Tripraland, Dimasa, Karbi, Mithila, Vindhya Pradesh and others”, he said.

The groups are coming under the banner National Federation for New States (NFNS)  and its president Prof. Munish Tamang has extended help in demanding a separate state for Garos.

The GSMC has urged people to help and support Garoland demand.

“So, I urge my fellow Garo brothers and sisters, let us strengthen our movements and proceed towards prosperity irrespective of any clan, qualification, status, religion, group”, Marak said.

The religious leaders, political leaders and  social leaders of Garo Hills have also been urged to join hands together for Garoland.

“We can build ourselves Governor House, Assembly House, Secretariat House and we can make the laws and regulations and we can run and govern our land and state by ourselves”, Marak said.

He said the people have the right to demand Garoland under the framework of Indian constitution.

“Let us not extinguish our torch, let us keep it successfully. I would like to express to all Achik brothers and sisters that one day we shall overcome and get Garoland state”, Marak added.
