GH gets first advanced life support ambulance

Zenith Sangma dedicates ALS ambulance to people

Shillong, Sept 30: With patients from Garo Hills region of Meghalaya lacking facilities for instant and proper treatment due to the lack of Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, Rangsakona Legislator Zenith M Sangma on Thursday donated such an  ambulance to the people of his constituency.

Requesting the public to utlise the modern ambulance donated by him, Rangsakona legislator said, “The modern ambulance vehicles would be useful in providing better medical services during medical emergencies.”

This advanced life support Ambulance, costing Rs 26 lakh was dedicated to the people by Zenith with an objective of supporting the fight against deadly virus in the backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic.

There is no ALS ambulance in Garo Hills region.

At present in Meghalaya, there are three ALS ambulances of which one is at the stepdown COVID hospital at Umsawli, one in Shella, and another one in Laitkynsew.

NEIGRIHMS hospital too has one ALS.

The ALS ambulance is fully equipped to handle patients needing life support. ALS ambulance is well equipped with tools and equipment similar to a hospital emergency department or critical care unit. ALS ambulances carry critical care equipment including an ECG monitor, defibrillator, intravenous and blood draw tools  among others.
