RAM gets global membership

Shillong, Sept 30:  Rot Association of Meghalaya (RAM), a sex worker organisation operating within the jurisdiction of  Meghalaya, on the recommendation of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, has been included as a member of a global organization known as The Global Network of Sex Work Projects (NSWP).

In a statement, the president of RAM ,I Kharmuti said NSWP exists to uphold the voice of sex workers globally and connect regional networks advocating for the rights of female, male, and transgender sex workers. NSWP members are local, national or regional sex worker-led organisations and networks across five regions: Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America and the Caribbean.

Manuela Nehrig and Ruth Morgan Thomas (Global Coordinator) also invited RAM to collaborate on future projects including the decriminalization of sex trade across the globe. RAM president, I. Kharmuti has also been invited to speak at the global conference and also to attend the next UN session on Human Rights.

RAM also announced  the addition of 30 more members to the group on Thursday.
