Govt approves certificate criteria for weaker sections
Confusion over 'poor section' as annual income limit is less than Rs 8 lakh
Shillong, May 6: The cabinet has approved the Office Memorandum for the guidelines of issuance of income and assets certificate for the economically weaker sections in the state. This is for reservation of economically weaker sections in civil posts and services in central offices and posts & admission in central government Institutions. This is applicable to persons not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs.
After the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said this does not apply to majority of the population of Meghalaya. “Families whose incomes are less than Rs 8 lakh will get this certificate but if these families also in spite of having Rs 8 lakh and less annual income, have five acres of agricultural land and above, have residential flat of 1000 square feet, have residential plot of 100 sq. yards, have residential plot of 200 sq. yards in non-municipal areas will not be entitled to the certification.
