Shillong,June 3: Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has assured that those involved in the murder of a tourist from Indore, Madhya Pradesh will be brought to book.
“We cannot jump the gun as far as the progress of the investigation is concerned. Whatever happened, the guilty will be brought to book,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Tuesday.
The police recovered a dao from a gorge of Weisawdong falls, where the body of Raja Raghuvanshi, was found .
He along with his wife went missing while on a honeymoon to Sohra.
A special investigation team (SIT) is probing the matter.
Lyngdoh said “As far as tourism sector is concerned, we know the fact that a man from Shillong has been missing in Thailand for the last 8 months or so but it doesn’t mean that Thailand is no longer safe for travellers. All tourist destinations because of rush of tourists, there are possibilities of instances of accidents, or even crimes being committed but that is just a dot in the entire landscape.”
Bringing positivity, Paul referred to the testimonies of youtubers who had visited Sohra and said, “They have all testified that Meghalaya is a safe and tourist friendly state. Therefore one incident does not mean you paint an entire state with the same brush.”
He said the Indore couple’s case was an isolated incident. “We do not know. Investigation is still on. The other victim is yet to be traced”,he said.
“All I can say is that with tourism growing as a sector we are bound to have more footfalls, we have launched the tourist buddies today to ensure that guides are present in all tourist destinations in Sohra but then the department and government cannot compel the tourists to use their services as they have the option of taking their help and not taking their help,” he said.
