Govt to sponsor Rs 15 lakh for professional studies of staff

Shillong, Aug 11: The state has curtailed the foreign visits of officers and contractual employees.

The cabinet on Friday took the decision as part of austerity measure.

Briefing reporters after the meeting , cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said the visits will be limited to two in a financial year.

“If the officers have to undertake the second visit, they have to provide a satisfactory report of the first visit”, Paul said.

The state government can sponsor only a limited foreign visit and the rest should be borne by either the central government or any other external agencies.

The only exception is when an officer goes to a foreign country to accept an award, Paul added.

To a question on restriction on CM and cabinet ministers, Paul said that their foreign visits are governed by the guidelines of union ministry of external affairs.

The government has decided to sponsorĀ  officers to undertake professional studies both online/offline to upgrade their skills

The tution fees approved by the cabinet is Rs 15 lakh.
