Govt faces difficulty in acquiring place for landfills for Jowai and Shillong

Shillong, March 16: Acquiring land for setting up permanent landfill stations for Mawlai Marten and Jowai town is a difficult task.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar told reporters on Thursday that the department had floated advertisements and interested land owners submitted their applications.

“However, most of the lands are not feasible for setting up of permanent landfill” Dhar said.
The deputy chief minister said he would take a call within this week on the matter. “If the previous applications for Jowai are not valid or feasible, I will go for fresh advertisement,” he said.
He added that a similar decision was also taken in respect of the Marten dumping ground at Mawlai Mawiong.
