
Shillong,June 27: The state government has launched the Chief Minister’s Research Grant to document the culture, tradition and art forms of the state.
The focus areas are arts and culture, heritage studies, indigenous communities, land, language and lineage and evaluation studies.
After launching the initiative under Arts and Culture department on Thursday, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma appealed to scholars to apply for the research. A committee has also been set up to scrutinise the applications.
Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh also stressed the need of encouraging people of the state to take up the research work considering the potential in the field of arts, culture and tradition.
The government will provide Rs 3 lakh for each project and the duration is 10 months.
Initially, 50 projects will be selected.

- Individuals who have an interest in undertaking research, and have a minimum Bachelor’s degree in any Social Science discipline from a UGC recognized Central University or a State University of Meghalaya.
- Registered institutes and organizations under 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act as well as registered societies are also eligible to apply. However, they must clearly specify who (Project Director) will undertake the research project.
Receipt of applications will close at 11:59 pm on 20th of July 2024.
The selected scholars will be intimated by the 2nd week of August 2024.
The release of 1st installment to the selected awardees will be on 15th of August 2024 [Independence Day].
