Shillong, June 23: Mining and Geology department has asked the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills to conduct an inquiry into the alleged illegal mining of coal taking place in South West Khasi Hills District under Nonghyllam Police Station by Skingford Nongbri and submit a detailed report within 7 days for submission to Justice (Retd) BP Katakey as desired by him.
“Further, he is to take strict action against the person(s) under the provisions of MMDR Act, 1957 if the allegation is found to be true”, said RP Marak, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya Mining & Geology Department in an order on June 21.
The Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District will be assisted in the inquiry by the Superintendent of Police, South West Khasi Hills District, the order said.
