Shillong, Aug 30: After media reports on Monday quoted Power Minister James Sangma as saying that the Umngot hydro electric project was scrapped, it was known that the project was terminated a year ago.
When asked, Sangma said the agreement signed by the state government with JP Power Ventures Limited was scrapped in the past.

As per records, the state cabinet had on August 7 last year cancelled the agreement to develop 270 MW Umngot project.
The reason was that even after 13 years, the project had failed to take off due to financial problems faced by the private power developer.
The agreement was signed in 2007.
