Shillong, Dec 7:The state government is examining the impact Meghalaya may have following the ban on consumption of beef in Assam.
When asked whether this will affect the transportation of cattle through Assam to Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said, “We will see and examine properly but nobody can interfere with our food habits”.
Speaking to reporters after attending the event to celebrate 50 years of government drivers’ association in the city, Dhar said that the district administration will do the needful as far as restaurants on the borders areas are concerned besides the issue of transportation of cattle through Assam.
Earlier on Friday, BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for banning beef in restaurants and public places in Assam.

The deputy chief minister said that Chief Minister is camping in Delhi to meet union ministers and discuss several issues including the need to get defence land to relocate the Harijan Colony residents.
Hawkers’ relocation
Dhar said that discussion is underway for relocation of hawkers in Khyndailad.
“We can’t say the process will be over this year or not”, said Dhar, who is also the in-charge of Urban and Municipal Affairs department.
