Shillong, March 26: The cabinet has approved the purchase of a building worth Rs 20 crore for setting up a state guest house in Bengaluru for accomodating the visitors and students from Meghalaya.
Cabinet minister and government spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh told reporters on Wednesday that the building located in Bengaluru will accomodate 50 boys and 50 girls in two dormitories.
“Bangalore is one of the most visited areas by Meghalayans and we also have quite a number of students pursuing various courses in that city,” he said.
To a question whether there is any plan to construct a Meghalaya House, Lyngdoh said, “As of now, the immediate need is to cater to the need of the student population. A Meghalaya House is also in the pipeline but in order to address the immediate need where a number of students are finding it very difficult to find accomodation and the rates are very exorbitant but creating a Meghalaya House would need more like creation of more posts, placing of officers. So in order to address the immediate need we will first created this facility of a guest house specially dedicated to visitors and student population of the state,” he said.
