Govt working with think tank to apply data in governance

Shillong, Sep 10: The state government is collaborating with Bengaluru-based Public Affairs Centre (PAC) to use data for crafting policies.

PAC is in a knowledge partnership with the state planning department for evidence-based research support and the application of data science in governance to help enhance development outcomes.

Among the key activities of PAC in Meghalaya are the identification of data sources, points of data generation, modalities of data collection and modes of data management; and empirical research to better understand the geography of the state and its relationship with the local population. PAC has developed research designs for small proof-of-concept studies.

Besides facilitating the implementation of quick-win interventions, it has also conducted exploratory data analysis that would fortify activities in the subsequent project years and rationalise future interventions.

The Bengaluru-based think tank recently released its annual report where it outlined its activities in the state.

“Governments produce a large amount of data by way of monitoring of schemes and through everyday operations. Through its Knowledge Partnership with PAC, the Government of Meghalaya is working together to mobilise available data for evidence-based policy craftsmanship,” the report quoted Cyril VD Diengdoh, secretary of Planning, Investment Promotion and Sustainable Development Department, as saying.
