While the HNLC has threatened to shut down every Hindu temple if the Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) sticks to blocking roads for reopening of the Mawjymbuin cave, HITO has petitioned the Chief Secretary to look into the matter.

In a statement issued on Monday, HNLC general secretary cum publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said, “The KSP’s threats of road blockades and communal propaganda will not intimidate us. Instead, they expose their true agenda: to spread hatred, incite communal tensions, and undermine the sovereignty of the Hynniewtrep nation.”

“If the KSP dares to block roads to demand the reopening of the Mawjymbuin cave, the HNLC issues a stern warning: every Hindu temple must be shut down”, the outfit said.

In a separate statement, the HNYF wanted  the chief secretary to prevent road blockade on the Meghalaya-Assam highway by the Hindu group.

In a letter to Wahlang, HiTO president Donbok Dkhar said, “Certain right-wing extremist factions in Assam, spearheaded by the Kutumba Suraksha Parishad, are threatening to initiate a road blockade along the vital highways that connect Meghalaya and Assam. This potential disruption is a direct response to the ongoing Mawjymbuiñ issue, which has aroused significant tensions in the area.It is crucial to emphasize that the Mawjymbuiñ issue should be resolved within the framework of the Dorbar Shnong, the traditional council that plays a pivotal role in the governance and dispute resolution among the Hynñiewtrep people. According to our longstanding customs, the Dorbar Shnong holds the ultimate authority in these matters, and it is this body that should lead the decision-making process,” he added.
