Guv nod to appointment of B Dhar as Lokayukta chief
Decision not free from controversies; new anti-graft panel after 8 months
Shillong, Jan 29: Retired IAS official Bhalang Dhar was appointed as the second Meghalaya Lokayukta chief.
The warrant of appointment was effected by Governor Satya Pal Malik on January 17 and it was notified on January 27 by the home( political) department.
The post was vacant for almost eight months after the tenure of first chairman Justice (Retired) PK Musahary ended on May 31 last year.
Earlier on December 15, the selection committee had recommended the name of Dhar, former East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner as the chairperson of Meghalaya Lokayukta.
The oath of affirmation will be administered by the governor on January 31.
The decision, however, is not free from controversies as some legal experts wanted to know whether Dhar has any legal background or is he an ’eminent person’ as stipulated by the Lokayukta Act.
