Gym instructor held in Arunachal for sexually harassing minor

Itanagar, June 4 (UNI): The Lower Subansiri District Police has arrested a 30-year-old gym instructor for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl at Hapoli in Lower Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh, last month, an official said on Sunday.
Police said an FIR received at Women Police Station (WPS), Ziro on May 21 from the victim’s mother said that on May 19, one Bhadra Chetry, 30, son of Dhan Bahadur Chetry of Amguri Gaon in Assam’s Tinsukia district and instructor of Silo gym Hapoli offered her minor daughter a ride and picked her in his car and then he molested her in one closed room at the gym.
The accused after commission of the crime was on the run to evade arrest and was hiding in Assam. However, the intensive search operation for the absconding accused was continued following registration of a case under Sections 354/509 of Indian Penal Code read with Sec 8 of POCSO Act at WPS Ziro. The case was endorsed to SI Tania Uli for investigation.
“After 12 days of relentless effort, the accused was finally tracked down in Likabali, Lower Siang district and accordingly, he was arrested on June 3. Further investigation is underway,” Lower Subansiri SP Dr Sachin Singhal said on Sunday.
