Railway Board recommends CBI probe into Bahanaga train tragedy

Bhubaneswar, June 4 (UNI): The Railway Board has recommended for CBI probe into the Bahanaga Bazar train accident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said here on Sunday.

The train accident considered a deadliest one in the last two decades involving three trains has claimed 275 lives and left over 1,000 injured.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (South Eastern Circle) decided to hold a statutory enquiry on June 5 and 6 in the South Institute Kharagpur into the accident.

The South Eastern Railway appealed to rail users ,local pubic and other bodies to depose before the commission on the dates regarding any information to the accident case.

Chief Secretary P K Jena so far 108 bodies out of 275 died in the accident have been identified and process for the transfer of bodies is on. While 85 bodies have been identified in Balasore and process to transfer the bodies on.

As many as 190 bodies were brought to Bhubaneswar, Out of it 23 have been identified and the process to transfer the bodies on.

He said the immediate concern of the government is to identify and transfer the bodies to the relatives as quick as possible. The bodies which could not be identified would be disposed off through medico legal process.

He said a 17 member health team has arrived from Delhi for embalming the bodies after Chief Minister talked with the Prime Minister . It would help us to keep the bodies for some more days. The process for embalming has started.

The Chief Secretary appealed people to contact the state government over its toll free number or through the websites for any information regarding bodies at the earliest.
