HC rejects state plea to cancel Sonam’s bail

Shillong, June 29: The High Court of Meghalaya has upheld the order of the sessions court to grant bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi.

Advocate Sudev Thapa, who appeared on behalf of Sonam, said the plea of the state to cancel bail was rejected by the High Court.

The plea of the state was to use section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which is the inherent power of the court to cancel the bail.

The single bench headed by Justice W Diengdoh pronounced the order on Monday (June 29).

The copy of the order will be available only in the evening, Thapa said.

Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, secured bail as the police had not explained the reason why she was arrested as per the article 22 of the Constitution.

The lower court had granted bail for  procedural lapses while arresting Sonam

The accused was also not informed about the offence u/s 103(1) of BNS.
