HITO carries out rally for electoral transparency

Shillong, Jan 30: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) on Monday created awareness on electoral transparency.
The organisation took out a car rally to highlight the importance of electoral transparency in the February 27 polls.
The rally from Lad Smit via Laitkor had the participation of hundreds of HITO members and the citizens.
The rally proceeded to Madanryting, Fire Brigade Point, St Edmund’s School, Dhankheti, Civil Hospital Point and concluded at Motphran.
Speaking at the event, HITO president Donbok Dkhar said there is a need to educate and remind the public on the failure of the state government in the last five years.
“As a responsible pressure group, we have not come to politicise any issue but we have come to speak and create awareness among the public to not be misled by any candidates or political parties and to vote righteously in order to have a strong government post the election” Dkhar said.
He, however, said the government did not fulfill the demands of the people, especially on the move to come out with Gaming Act and casinos and for not being able to persuade the central government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and recognition to Khasi language in the eight schedule of the constitution.
“We are not canvassing for any candidates or political parties and we appeal to the general public and everyone to think over many times before exercising our right to vote as we do not want to suffer again for another five years,” he said.
