
Shillong, Aug 25: A five-member HNLC team is in Sumer, Ri Bhoi district since August 5 to initiate peace talks with the government.
However, the official dialogue is yet to take place even after 20 days.
The representative of HNLC, Sadon Blah said on Thursday that after the organisation’s statement on August 3 regarding deputing a delegation, five members arrived on August 5.
They are lodged at Sumer IB in Ri Bhoi, he said.
The HNLC had authorised the vice chairman of the outfit Manbhalang Jyrwa, political secretary Aristerwell Thongni, and foreign secretary Phrangkupar Diengdoh and two of their personal security officers Aiborlem Marbaniang and Storgy Lyngdoh to participate in the ongoing tripartite peace talks between the Centre, State and the HNLC.
Demand of HNLCÂ
To a question on the demand of HNLC, Blah said a lot of ground work needs to be done.
“As far as the demand is concerned, we will see in the coming days”, he added.
The state appointed interlocutor PS Dkhar informally met the HNLC delegation but no date has been fixed for formal talks, Blah said.
He said since safe passage was given to the HNLC delegation besides ensuring their safety and security , the government is serious to start peace talks.
