Home minister to review functioning of CCTVs in city
Shillong,June 15: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui will review the functioning of CCTVs installed by the police .
After the recent looting of a mobile shop, the owner had alleged that the CCTVs at Motphran were not working (in picture).
“I will seek a report on how many CCTVs are in working condition”, he said on Wednesday.
He also said it is important for people, especially big business establishments, to install CCTVs for their own security.
“Time has come that for their own security, they should install CCTVs in their respective premises. It really helps in monitoring the activities in and around their own establishments and also the surrounding areas,” Rymbui told reporters.
He said private CCTV footage can to a great extent help the police to solve a crime especially when it comes to instances of theft and other criminal activities.
“Having said that, it is not that the government is shying away from the responsibility to see the safety and security of the state but we can supplement whatever we can from the police,” Rymbui said.
