Shillong July 14: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mawlai Circle has conducted its Sier Lapalang operation (SLO) and pushed back 16 migrant labourers from Mawlai Umshing Mawkynroh.
The HYC general secretary of Mawlai, B Lyngdoh Mawnai said the decision was taken after local youth have been deprived of their rights to get employment within their own localities due to entry of such migrant labourers. This has forced them to search for employment in the different parts of Shillong.
“We have decided to push back these migrant labourers in order to pave way for our own people, who are construction workers, to get employment,” he added.
The HYC asked the contractors to employ local youth as the organisation has decided to intensify the operation in Mawlai area.
