Hynniewtrep border panel demands removal of gate from Khanduli

Shillong, July 26: Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum has sought the intervention of the state government to remove the entry gate put up by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in Khanduli which is affecting the free movement of th Khasi people in the border.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the spokesperson of Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum,Thomas Passah said that the gate has not only affected the free movement of the residents but also caused hardships to the sick residents who have to go faraway Jowai for medical treatment.

Moreover, the farmers and the villagers are also taxed at the gate.

“We also see the gate as an attempt of Assam to claim the area as discussion is going on regarding the border dispute”, he said.

Delegation led by MM Thaiang seeks retransfer of Block I

Transfer back Block I 

In a related press conference, a group of border residents led by senior citizen and journalist MM Thaiang said Khanduli is very much part of Meghalaya.

He asked the Assam government to transfer back Block I at the earliest as it was tagged with Assam only for administrative convenience in the past.
