Shillong, Sep 1: Congress chief Vincent H Pala on Thursday asserted his loyalty for the grand old party and said he could not be purchased by other political parties.
“So many have approached us but we are not so cheap. I am fighting for the Congress. I am not so cheap to be purchased or to be bought by anybody,” Pala said.
The Shillong MP, who will contest from Sutnga-Saipung constituency in 2023, said those opponents who are saying that he would leave the Congress are lying.
“There is no denying the fact that as soon as I became MPCC president, Mukul Sangma and his group left the party and All India Trinamool Congress was very excited,” he said.
“AITC is now divided into how many Trinamools, some have joined this side and some have joined that side,” he added.
The MPCC chief further alleged that many people at the grassroots level have shifted from the NPP to the Congress especially in Garo Hills. “But the only difference is that they (NPP) are very good at marketing in social media,” he said, adding that NPP gaining prominent leaders would not ensure its victory.
Claiming that the Congress is blessed with good candidates who are young with clean image, Pala said, “Elections are just six months away and to say that the Congress is nowhere is wrong. I think we will definitely do well. I still hope that we should do better than anyone because the public are with us.”
