The notification issued on Saturday said,”From amongst the empanelled list of IPS Officers duly recommended by the Empanelment Committee of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in its meeting held on 2nd May, 2024 and in the interest of public service, the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to appoint Smti Idashisha Nongrang, IPS (RR:1992), Director General of Civil Defence & Home Guard, Meghalaya, Shillong as the Director General of Police (Head of Police Force), Meghalaya, Shillong in the Apex Scale of Pay (Level 17) in the Pay Matrix for a fixed period of 2(two) years with effect from 20th May, 2024 to 19th May, 2026″.

The order of appointment

The UPSC had recommended three names- Idashisha Nongrang (1992 batch) RP Meena (1993) and Deepak Kumar (1994) for appointment.

This comes after two IPS officers-GP Singh(1991 batch) and Harmeet Singh (1992) expressed their unwillingness to take up the task.

Following the state government’s choice, the appointment of Nongrang was effected after getting approval from the Election Commission of India.

She is currently the DIrector General of Civil Defence and Home Guards.

In the past, she had also held the post of SP, East Khasi Hills.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma congratulated the new DGP.

“Heartiest congratulations to Smti Idashisha Nongrang, IPS, on her appointment as the new DGP.
Breaking barriers and making history, she becomes the first tribal lady from our state to hold this position, a moment of immense pride for all of us. Wishing her all the best!”, Conrad said.
