India to take on Qatar in FIFA WC 2022 qualifiers

Kolkata, Jun 2 (UNI) The Indian men’s senior national team is set to play in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers against hosts Qatar on Thursday at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.

After the first match, India will take on Bangladesh (June 7) and Afghanistan (June 15) with qualification for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 also at stake.

The matches are being played in a central venue due to the pandemic situation forcing the home and away format to be abandoned.

Head coach Igor Stimac has named a 28-member Indian squad that is currently training in Doha, with the team having landed in the city on May 20, 2021.

India are currently on 3 points from 5 matches in Group E.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Amrinder Singh, Dheeraj Singh.

Defenders: Pritam Kotal, Rahul Bheke, Narender Gehlot, Chinglensana Singh, Sandesh Jhingan, Adil Khan, Akash Mishra, Subhashish Bose.

Midfielders: Udanta Singh, Brandon Fernandes, Liston Colaco, Rowllin Borges, Glan Martins, Anirudh Thapa, Pronoy Halder, Suresh Singh, Lalengmawia Ralte, Abdul Sahal, Yasir Mohammad, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Bipin Singh, Ashique Kuruniyan.

Forwards: Ishan Pandita, Sunil Chhetri, Manvir Singh.

All three games will be broadcast live in India on the Star Sports network and Disney+ Hotstar.
