Shillong, Sept.5: East Jaintia Hills police arrested an inter-state drugs supplier in the wee hours at Umtyra on Tuesday.
East Jaintia Hills SP JS Dhanoa said information was received that one drug supplier travelling in a commercial Sumo B/R No MZ01 P 2566 is coming from Mizoram and heading towards Shillong and is suspected of carrying illegal contraband.
Consequently, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ), J. Myrom,, Khliehriat Police and ANTF Team conducted naka at Umtyra on NH06 and around 5 am detained the commercial Sumo B/R MZ01 P 2566.
After observing all legal formalities under NDPS ACT, a search was conducted of the detained vehicle in the presence of independent witnesses and one small brown carton box was detected belonging to one passenger by the name of Thangsiammawia Paite (25) , son of Lala Paite and a resident of Zuangtui, Aizawl, Mizoram and inside the small carton box, 20 soap boxes were found containing yellowish orange powder with a net weight of 252 grams which tested positive for heroin. The same was seized in the presence of independent witnesses for further necessary action as per law.
In this connection, a case is being registered at Khliehriat PS and investigation of the same is under way to trace the forward and backward linkage.
