Jal Jeevan Mission completion by year end: Tongkhar

Shillong, Aug 16: The minister in charge of Public Health Engineering (PHE), Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, is confident that the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme will be implemented cent per cent by December this year.

The minister told mediapersons on Tuesday that work will gain momentum after monsoon and that 50% of the work would be completed by September.

“I can assure you that in terms of sanctioning the scheme, we will be able to complete 100% as targeted by December 2022,” he added.

The cost of pipes has come down, which is good news for the local contractors who are implementing the JJM in the state, Tongkhar pointed out.

“The amount estimated also includes the cost of pipes and if bought at a high rate, the extra cost will have to be deducted from the scheme. Since the rate has come down, we have again requested the supplier to resume supply and at the reduced rate,” he added.
