Japan minister commits to long-term ties with NE

Shillong, Feb 27: Japanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Horii Iwao said on Friday that Japan would support connectivity linking the North East to the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean.

Speaking on Day 2 of ‘Kizuna 6: Scaling up Partnerships’, the Japanese minister said the Government of Japan would support private-sector cooperation in the field of economic security, semiconductor and clean energy. He emphasised that Japan would continue to play an active role in facilitating people-to-people ties.

Speaking at the policymakers panel, Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao called for greater engagement with Myanmar and emphasised that besides the Japanese language, Indian youth also need to imbibe Japanese values.

The 6th edition of the India-Japan Intellectual Conclave was organised by Asian Confluence in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Embassy of Japan, the Meghalaya Government and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.
