Japanese foreign minister to attend Kizuna conclave in city

Inaugural address will be delivered by Conrad K. Sangma on February 26; Japanese minister will speak on Feb 27

Shillong, Feb 25: Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Horii Iwao is set to visit Shillong to address the Kizuna-6 conclave being hosted by the Asian Confluence in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, Embassy of Japan and the Meghalaya Government.

The Japanese minister will arrive in Shillong on February 27 and deliver the keynote address on Day 2 of the conclave.

The inaugural address will be delivered by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on February 26. The Ambassador of Japan to India, Keiichi Ono, will also participate in the proceedings.

‘Kizuna’, which means ‘enduring bond’ in Japanese, is an annual dialogue curated by the Asian Confluence across the North East. Kizuna 6 will feature a high-level India–Japan leadership dialogue focused on scaling strategic partnerships in the region, alongside business roundtables on the semiconductor ecosystem, clean energy and circular economy and skilling sectors.

The conclave will host industry-government engagements with leading Japanese and Indian corporations and development agencies, as well as dedicated sessions with policy and diplomatic representatives from India, Japan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.

The programme will also include a curated site visit to the upcoming semiconductor facility in Assam and other emerging regional investment hubs.
