Shillong, Mar 2: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) will hold a black flag rally on March 6 in protest against the proposed railway line in Jaintia Hills.
In a media statement, JNC Central Executive Committee president Sambormi Lyngdoh said the rally is to oppose the state government’s move to bring the railway to the hills.
“The government is too busy to look up our memorandum that we had sent years ago against Railway. This time, we will hit the streets to show them that Jaiñtias are against the railway unless there is a strong act in tackling the influx to our hills,” said Lyngdoh.
JNC has urged people of Jaintia Hills to join the rally “for the betterment” of the region.
Earlier in January, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the government took up with the Centre on the need to speed up the implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) as it resolves many issues and paves the way for the introduction of railway lines in the Khasi-Jaintia region of the state.
