Shillong, July 20: Jaintia National Council (JNC) has criticised Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar for his statement that some Jaintia people had requested the government to bring railway to Jaintia Hills.
In a statement, the JNC said those who want to bring railway to Jaintia Hills should be termed as black sheep.
The JNC has asked the government to establish good roads, colleges and health centres instead of bringing railway.
The JNC in- charge publicity cell Mebanteilang Sukhlain also asked the government what benefits the cement plants have brought to Jaintia Hills as locals are not benefitting by way of employment.
He also wanted to know what happened to the resolution on ILP besides the MRSSA.
Earlier, after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma made it clear that as the people of Khasi-Jaintia Hills are against railway, the project may go to other parts of the state according to the Centre.
