JNC wants PowerGrid sub-station home guards to be reinstated

Shillong, May 1: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) has demanded that the state government reinstate the nine home guards who were removed from duty at Khliehriat PowerGrid sub-station.
In a statement issued on Thursday, JNC questioned the government’s decision to replace the local home guards with central agency personnel. “Local home guards are specifically trained to operate within the state, while central agency personnel can work across various states,” said JNC President Sambormi Lyngdoh.
The nine home guards, who served the department for over a decade, lost their jobs recently. JNC, led by Lyngdoh, met PowerGrid Chief Manager Sanatanu Das on Thursday.
Das said the decision was based on a notification from the state government that mentioned about personnel from a central government agency.
JNC demanded the retention of the local home guards. The chief manager sought time till May 5 to resolve the issue.
“If PowerGrid does not address the demand, JNC will seek alternative solutions,” the statement said, adding that the council would meet “ministers concerned”.
