Jowai Bishop assumes office

Shillong, Oct 1: Fr Ferdinand Dkhar was ordained Bishop of Jowai on Sunday.

The Episcopal Ordination was held at Ummulong in the presence of Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh and others.


Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, cabinet ministers AL Hek and Kyrmen Shylla among others were also present.

On July 8, Pope Francis had appointed Fr. Ferdinand (59), the Administrator of the Diocese of Jowai, as the Bishop of Jowai.

“Had a blessed day at Ummulong attending the Episcopal Ordination of Reverend Father Ferdinand Dkhar, as Bishop of the Diocese of Jowai. We pray for God’s guidance and His divine blessings as Reverend Bishop Ferdinand takes on his responsibility to further serve God and His people. May he continue to enrich their spiritual lives and be a blessing to everyone he meets”, Conrad tweeted.
